TORONTO and AUSTIN, November 29, 2017 — Today, Top Hat, provider of the leading cloud-based teaching platform for higher education, announced a new partnership with Unizin, Ltd (“Unizin”), a nonprofit consortium of 25 leading universities dedicated to promoting affordability, access, and learner success in digital education. Through the partnership, Unizin’s 25 consortium member institutions will have full access to Top Hat services including the OER Marketplace, Single-Sign-On integration, and LMS integration at a special rate.
In line with Unizin’s aim of promoting affordable and accessible digital content for higher education students, the partnership grants educators at member institutions access to Top Hat’s full range of tools. Members of the consortium will also have the ability to create and collaborate on digital, interactive content for their courses that is both cost effective for students and completely customizable––ensuring higher rates of learner success.
Unizin consortium members include the University of Michigan, Indiana University, University of Florida, and Colorado State University, and represent nearly 850,000 students. Member universities will join the 750-plus North American colleges and universities that are already using Top Hat. Additionally, Top Hat’s ability to record real-time student engagement via its in-class app and OER offerings will provide beneficial insights to educators, their respective institutions, and other members of Unizin’s consortium.
“We look forward to utilizing Top Hat’s revolutionary services among our consortium members,” said Rob Lowden, Interim Executive Director of Unizin, Ltd. “As an organization focused on creating an open, scalable, and data-driven educational environment through collaboration and technology, Top Hat is a great partner to help build this community.”
“We’re excited to partner with the Unizin consortium, which shares our mission of reducing costs for students while improving the overall learning experience,” said Mike Silagadze, co-founder and CEO of Top Hat. “Through the partnership, more educators will have the opportunity to join our community to better engage students through high-quality interactive materials, and share and collaborate with their peers on creating digital course content.”
