Overview

Join Penn State data scientist Elizabeth Seidle and Unizin to learn about Penn State’s Performance Outlook initiative: a Machine Learning (ML) approach to provide faculty and advisers insights into student engagement. Kyle Unruh, Unizin’s Director of Data Services and Solutions, will share information about the building block components in the Unizin Data Platform (UDP) that can support projects like Performance Outlook and are available to all Unizin members.

What to Expect

In this 60-minute webinar, Elizabeth will share how Penn State built the machine learning model powering Performance Outlook, and how the application is now being piloted with faculty and advisers. Topics include:

  • A review of the ML model developed to accurately calculate weekly predictions of students’ risk of falling below a C for a given enrollment.
  • A discussion of the intended use of these predictions by faculty and advisers.
  • An explanation of the UDP infrastructure and assets that underpin the ML model.
